IN THE NARTHEX
This week you will find copies of the September calendar, the Portals of Prayer, brochures with more info about the LERT program.
ADULT INQUIRERS’ CLASS
If you missed last Sunday’s Inquirers’ Class, you can still begin today at 4:00 p.m. Please be in prayer for the following people who are attending: Melissa Gilliland, Rachel Goodpasture, Don & Cindy Lassen, Tavian Misner, Benjamin Neill, Kathrine Neill, Darlene Reams, Debbie Sargent, Gracie Seager, Joann Shell, Eliot Smith, Michael & Kasey Stephenson, Art & Laura Young, Merrell & Vonda Young, and Jared & Shawna Zacharias.
RESUMING IN SEPTEMBER
All ladies are invited to attend Morning Break. This Wednesday morning Bible Study, taught by Pastor Dandy, resumes Sept. 3rd from 9:30-10:30. Come dig into the Word and enjoy some great fellowship!
Priscilla Guild will resume their normal meeting schedule on Thursday, September 4th, at 1:00p in the Fellowship Hall. Another great opportunity for service and fellowship at Trinity!
MOWERS NEEDED
We need a couple individuals willing to help with mowing the church/school property. You can mow on the day/time that works best for your schedule. The lawn mower is provided. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity. If interested, contact Terry Hanshaw at 913.360.0765.
SCHOOL BAND
Twenty-two students have signed up to be in our new band program. We need your help. You can contribute to our success by donating that band instrument sitting in your closet, unused, but in playing condition. Please contact Karen Schmidt, band director, 816-863-3380, kschmidt@trinityatchison.org for additional information or to donate an instrument.
A CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
We are looking to form Trinity Lutheran Church’s Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT). The LERT is a ministry of presence, rich with God’s mercy and Word of life. It serves thousands of individuals and families all over the world who are suffering from loss in the wake of disasters like hurricanes, floods, fires and tornadoes. It provides an opportunity for the church to be visibly active in reaching out in mercy to serve the hurting and homeless with physical and spiritual care. If you are interested to be the light during times of darkness, and if you want to be Christ’s hands and feet in times of disaster, help us by becoming a member of this Mercy in Action Team. This call for volunteers serves as the initial step that enables us to identify a group of volunteers to be trained in LERT fundamentals and requirements. Once formed and trained, we will be able to join others in supporting an established LERT, under the guidance of the Kansas District or Synod LERT leadership, and prayerfully in the future become the core of an organized Trinity Lutheran Church LERT. Those interested, please contact Jason Burgess by September 8th at 580-658-0994, or email at burgess2006harley@yahoo.com
SCHOOL SPONSORS
Will you prayerfully consider becoming a sponsor to help one of our Trinity School students with tuition? The suggested gift is $200.00, but any amount is welcomed. Perhaps you could team up with another family or give a gift from your Bible Class or group. We are looking for 40 sponsors this year and already have six! Simply mark your gift, “School Sponsor Plan.”
TREASURE HUNT
Today and next Sunday there will be tables set up in the school hallway outside the gym. Outdated items we’ve found in storage closets, e.g., cassette tapes, DVD series, books etc., are available for you to peruse. Please help yourself!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Meals on Wheels is looking for individuals to deliver meals to shut-ins, and those in need, on their South route. If you are interested, or have questions, please call Valerie at Project Concern at 913.367.4655.
AUGUST OCC NEEDS
Operation Christmas Child is collecting school supplies for August. We have enough pencils (Thank you!), but we still need: notebooks/coloring pads (7x12 or smaller), markers, colored pencils, pens, pencil sharpeners, erasers, scissors, glue sticks, rulers, calculators, dry watercolor sets, and tape.
AUGUST FOOD PANTRY NEEDS
This month we are suggesting cereal, potato sides, powdered gravy mixes, jars of gravy, and sticks of butter for our Food Pantry. The need is GREAT! (Please, no expired or near expired food.) Questions see Terry Mills.
THRIVENT ACTION TEAMS
Thrivent Action Team Cards are available. Action Teams can be used for any type of community service project, fundraiser, or educational event. Contact your Thrivent representative if you need help applying.
