OUR FATHER’S BUSINESS: September 27 – October 3

This week you will find the October calendar, order forms for the Priscilla Guild Nut Fundraiser, and the new Portals of Prayer devotionals.  

PRISCILLA GUILD FUNDRAISER 

Priscilla Guild is holding their annual Nut Sale fundraiser. You’ll find an order form in the narthex. You may either give your form and money to a member of Priscilla Guild, place it in the offering plate, or bring it to the church office before Oct. 18th. Thank you for your support!  

LIFE CHAIN 2026 

All are invited to join thousands across America standing against abortion in a peaceful, prayerful demonstration on Sunday, October 4, from 2:00-3:00 PM at 10th & Skyway in Atchison. Signs will be provided. 

SCHOOL SPONSORS NEEDED 

Will you prayerfully consider becoming a sponsor to help one of our Trinity School students with tuition? The suggested gift is $200.00, but any amount is welcomed. Perhaps consider teaming up with another individual or giving as a Bible Class. We are looking for 40 sponsors this year and currently have two. Simply mark your gift, “School Sponsor Plan.” 

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH CONFERENCE 

Confirmed (and will be confirmed in May) students are encouraged to consider going to the annual conference called Higher Things. This year the conference is June 22-25 in Mequon, Wisconsin.  Please check out their website, higherthings.org, for details. Contact Melissa Blanton or Lori Leonardi if you are interested. A non-refundable deposit will be needed in October.  

PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH 

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Perhaps the greatest forms of encouragement come from the very people God has called them to serve. Would you consider giving a note of thanks and encouragement or finding a special way to show your appreciation for our wonderful Pastors?  We are so blessed! 

SEEKING PARISH NURSE 

The Social Ministries Committee is looking for a caring, motivated professional to serve as the TLC Parish Nurse. The principal function is to support and promote Christ-centered health and wellness of body, mind, and spirit through congregational health ministry of the LCMS.  

Qualifications to serve as a Parish Nurse include: 

- Registered nurse in the state of Kansas 

- A spiritually mature member of the congregation he/she is serving 

- Ability to work as a team member with the committee, pastors,   and staff 

- Management and supervisory skills, experience as an educator 

As a parish nurse, in coordination with the committee, you have the flexibility to tailor your duties to fit the specific needs of TLC. Current activities include organizing blood drives, providing blood pressure checks, and maintaining Trinity’s automated external defibrillators.  

You would also be expected to complete a course offered by the LCMS Parish Nurse Council for RNs wishing to become parish nurses. If you have questions or are interested, please contact Eric Berry at 913-426-1808, or email rederagon@hotmail.com. 

STEAK FRY 

All Ushers and Elders are encouraged to RSVP for the annual Steak Fry by filling out the form in your bulletin by Oct. 12.  

SAVE THE DATE 

Join us for the Annual TLS Chili-Soup Supper and Silent Auction on Friday, November 13th, 5:00 – 6:30 PM in the school gym. 

THE SCRAPE 

You may have noticed a new banner in our gym.  Our Athletic Director, Tom Brincefield, taught us that falcons do not build nests.  According to an internet copilot search, “Unlike many birds that gather sticks, mud, or other materials to build a nest, falcons…select a site with enough loose substrate — such as gravel, sand, or dead vegetation — and scrape out a shallow depression.”  So, we are now referring to our gym as “The Scrape – the home of the Falcons.”  

GAME NIGHT 

We’re hosting a game night, and you’re invited! We’re focusing on adult games (think party games, strategy games and well-known card games), but feel free to bring the kids along—we’ll have space and activities to keep them entertained. We'll serve bbq chicken sandwiches and drinks. Please bring a side to share! 

When: October 16th 
Time: Doors open at 5pm but feel free to come when you can.  

Where: Fellowship Hall (church basement)

ATCHISON COMMUNITY CHILDREN’S CHOIR 

Do you know a child in 4th – 8th Grade that loves to sing? Encourage them to join the Atchison Community Children’s Choir. No auditions are required. The first rehearsal will be Tuesday, October 6, from 5:30 – 7:00p at the United Methodist Church, 501 Kansas Ave. Zac Clemens is serving as the Director. SEPTEMBER OCC NEEDS 

Operation Christmas Child is collecting games that fit in a shoebox for September: card decks, dice games, yo-yos, puzzles, jump ropes, Jenga type blocks, sidewalk chalk, play dough, craft kits (no liquid glue/paint), sewing kits (fabric/thread/buttons/needles), bead kits, LEGO, pop-its, fidgets, etc. Thank you for your donation!  

SEPTEMBER FOOD PANTRY NEEDS 

Our pantry needs the following items: baked beans, canned soup (NO cream soups please, cream of mushroom, etc.), canned chicken breast, instant rice/rice sides, shelf stable milk, butter/margarine sticks/tubs (please bring to the office). We could also use medium-size shipping boxes and plastic bags. Thank you for your generous donation! 

THRIVENT ACTION TEAMS/CHOICE DOLLARS 

Thrivent Action Team Cards are available. Action Teams can be used for any type of community service project, fundraiser, or educational event. All Choice Dollars are now available in full on January 1 and may be directed anytime through December 31. Contact your Thrivent representative if you need help applying.
